I write in connection with your request for information which was received on 6th August 2025. Please find below the response to your request:
- The number of reported incidents of HGV (Heavy Goods Vehicle) fuel theft in your County for each of the past five full calendar years.
- The number of prosecutions that have resulted from these reported incidents within the same time periods.
If possible, I would appreciate it if the data for each year could also be broken down by month.

West Mercia police hold the information requested.
- The number of reported incidents of HGV (Heavy Goods Vehicle) fuel theft in your County for each of the past five full calendar years.
Caveat: There is not a separate offence for ‘fuel theft’ nor ‘theft from HGV’. Therefore, key word searches have been carried out. Although there is a Vehicle Style field within the crime recording system to allow ‘HGV’ to be searched on, this is not a mandatory field. Therefore, only those fuel theft offences where the terms ‘HGV’ or ‘heavy goods’ have been included will be returned. It should also be noted that an individual offence may include the theft of fuel from more than one HGV (ie. theft of fuel from several HGVs at a lorry yard).
