I write in connection with your request for information which was received on 13th October 2025.  Please find below the response to your request:

Gloucestershire police ay their Gloucester Detention Centre insist that all arrested detainees must wear a grey top before they are photographed in custody  so that 'we all look the same'. Under the FOI Act I would like to know your rules/protocol in regard to this. Is a detainee required to wear certain clothes before they are photographed. ?

West Mercia Police hold the information requested

A detainee does not have to wear the same clothing as everyone else.  A photograph is taken with whatever clothing the detainee is wearing at the time.  Whether that’s their own t-shirt/shirt/jumper/coat etc or a custody issued clothing (due to personal clothing being seized by the police).
