I write in connection with your request for information which was received on 16^th February 2026.  Please find below the response to your request:

I would like to request the following information regarding indecent exposure offences recorded by your force:

• The total number of indecent exposure offences recorded since it became a criminal offence (Sexual Offences Act 2003).

• Of these, the number of offences where the victim was recorded as female or male, if this information is held.

Caveat:  According to the Police National Legal Database (PNLD), the offence of Indecent Exposure under the Sexual Offences Act 2023, came into effect on 1/5/2004.  However, the offence of Indecent Exposure is a MoPI level 2 category offence, meaning data is kept for 10 years.  The force changed over crime recording systems on 4/10/2017.  Any crime that was still live on the introduction of the new recording system was brought over from the old, meaning the data can be recalled in the CRDB universe.   This relates to 28 offences returned in this search.  Unfortunately, where offences had been closed prior to 4/10/2017, we are unable to provide this data as we no longer have access to the previous crime recording system.

There were 1,120 unique offences of Indecent Exposure recorded.  Not all of these offences had a victim linked, as the second search returned only 957 offences where at least one victim had been linked.  Of the 957 offences, there were a total of 1,100 individual victims recorded.  Table 3 provided is the recorded gender of all the victims linked to the 957 offences.
