I would like to request the following information regarding vehicle theft in your police force area.

Please provide:

• The total number of recorded incidents of theft of a motor vehicle in your area for calendar years 2023, 2024 and 2025

Clarification received:

I am seeking the recorded number of motor vehicle theft offences in your area for calendar years 2023, 2024 and 2025 i.e. the crimes recorded, as opposed to calls about stolen vehicle or similar

The data will relate to Home Office classification (counting rules):

1. 48 Theft or Unauthorised Taking of a Motor Vehicle
2. 37/2 Aggravated Vehicle Taking

West Mercia Police hold the requested information.

Caveat: The totals are the number of vehicle theft offences not the number of vehicles stolen: an individual offence may include the theft of more than one vehicle. Vehicles stolen as part of another offence (e.g. burglary) will not be included in the figures.

The search looks at all recorded crimes within a live police records management system. Volumes may be different compared against previous or subsequent requests as offences can be reclassified and other information used to identify reports can be modified. The report only includes recorded notifiable crimes, excluding crime related incidents and crimes that have been reviewed and changed to no crime.
