FREEDOM OF INFORMATION REQUEST REFERENCE NO: HRC0034094/26
I write in connection with your request for information which was received on 6th October 2026. Please find below the response to your request:
I was hoping to get the total number of recorded hate crimes and a breakdown by monitored strand/targeted characteristic.
Please provide the following information for each of the last five complete financial years (or calendar years if this is how the data is held), as well as the current year to date if available:
The total number of hate crimes recorded in Worcestershire.
A breakdown of recorded hate crimes by targeted characteristic, including:
Race or ethnicity
Religion or belief
Sexual orientation
Disability
Transgender identity
Any other hate crime categories recorded by the force
For each category above, please provide:
The number of offences recorded in each year The percentage change year-on-year, if already held
Where recorded, please provide a geographical breakdown by local authority area:
Worcester
Malvern Hills
Wychavon
Wyre Forest
Bromsgrove
Redditch
Please also provide the number of arrests, charges and out-of-court disposals linked to hate crime offences in each year, broken down by hate crime category where possible.
Reply
West Mercia Police have conducted searches and can confirm that we hold information in relation to your request.
Caveat: We have provided the total number of hate crimes recorded, and then the number of crimes linked to each strand. Crimes can be motivated by more than one hate strand meaning the addition of the strand totals will not match the overall total.

For each category above, please provide:
The number of offences recorded in each year – see tables above
The percentage change year-on-year, if already held – no information held
Where recorded, please provide a geographical breakdown by local authority area:
Worcester
Malvern Hills
Wychavon
Wyre Forest
Bromsgrove
Redditch
We are unable to search for crimes by county. We have instead searched used the North and South Worcestershire local policing areas further broken down by district. Please note that these boundaries were uploaded in September 2017 when our crime management system was introduced and do not reflect any changes made since this time – see tables above
Please also provide the number of arrests, charges and out-of-court disposals linked to hate crime offences in each year, broken down by hate crime category where possible.
We have provided the outcomes of the investigations in the tables below. Only one outcome can be applied to an investigation regardless of the number of suspects. Where more than one suspect is linked to an investigation, where differing action may have been taken against the suspects the highest level of punitive action is recorded. Therefore, the number of investigations/outcomes does not necessarily indicate the number of persons that action was taken against.
