Have you ever wondered if policing could be the career for you? We are recruiting for police officers.

We know it’s a big decision to join the policing family so we’re hosting a drop in event in Worcester city centre this Saturday (15 October) for you to come along to find out everything you need to know about applying to join West Mercia Police.

The drop-in event is being held at The Kiln in Worcester where officers will be on hand, between 10am and 4pm, to answer any questions you may have about becoming a police officer, as well as explaining everything you need to know about the realities of the role, the benefits of joining West Mercia Police, the recruitment process and even how to submit a successful application.

Deputy Chief Constable Alex Murray said: “If you are a good communicator, a great problem solver and want to make a real difference, then policing could be for you.

“There are routes to becoming a police officer whether you already have a degree or if you want to work towards one whilst working for us. No matter which route you take you’ll get the training you need to allow you make a real difference in your communities. There’s also a host of benefits including flexible hours, generous annual leave, competitive salaries and pension contributions.

“Starting a career with West Mercia Police means you’ll be able to make a real difference in your community, by helping to reduce crimes and making people feel safe. Not only that, but you’ll embark on a career path that could see you specialise as a detective, patrol officer, dog handler, traffic officer or the trusted face of the force in one of our neighbourhood policing teams.

“If you’re interested in a career with us, and you want to find out more, I come along to our event on Saturday where you can find out all you need to know.”

Working for West Mercia will give any aspiring police officer the opportunity to work in some of the most rural areas within the country, such as Shropshire and Malvern Hills, whilst also getting the opportunity to develop their skill working in our cities and towns; Worcester, Hereford, Redditch, Kidderminster and Telford. There's opportunities to be a part of specialist roles from detectives, firearms and dog handlers and to work in a welcoming force where you are encouraged to be yourself.

Police Constable Erin Fairless, who is based in Worcester added: “I joined West Mercia Police as I wanted to work within the community where I live, and I loved the idea of knowing I could make a difference in my own community. I have always been a people person and I enjoy meeting new people and helping people, which I get to do every day being a police officer.

“I love my job and I look forward to coming to work, something which I have never experienced in previous jobs. I really enjoy working with everyone on my shift and think it’s great that we all support each other and chip in to help each other out where we can, and the support from higher ranks is also brilliant. I have never worked in a job before where I have felt so cared about.”

If you can’t make it to the event in person, then we have online discovery sessions you can join. Get the details here.

Police and Crime Commissioner John Campion said: “As Commissioner, I am committed to ensuring new recruits have the resources and support to become police officers that are equipped to help keep the communities of West Mercia safe.

“If you are interested in taking the first step on a new career path, please make sure you come along to the drop-in event on Saturday 15 October at The Kiln in Worcester.”
