Schools’ deadline to sign up to SmartWater extended

Officers across the force sent Christmas cards to all schools offering free SmartWater kits to protect them from burglary.

PC Jason Fenn from Shrewsbury said: “The take up on our SmartWater kits has been great and the initial cut-off date was 13 Friday January but due to the popularity and with schools requiring more time we would like to extend the offer.

“Schools like St Giles Church of England school in Shrewsbury very recently signed up to the scheme and will be receiving their kits soon. The kits will help schools protect their property such as their computers, sports equipment and learning technology."

Headteacher, Caroline Gardner said of the scheme: "I was delighted that the school was working with the West Mercia Prevention Network on their current initiative and looked forward to building stronger relationships with them in the future."

Police and Crime Commissioner John Campion said: “Schools are the beating heart of communities across the three counties so it’s important they are given the tools they need to continue being places where children feel safe and are safe.

“I’m delighted that the SmartWater offer has been so popular. Through my ‘We Don’t Buy Crime’ initiative, I help to fund the rollout of kits across West Mercia as they are a proven way to deter burglary.
