Celebrating National Volunteers Week

We would like to say a huge thank you to all our volunteers who between them have contributed more than 20,000 hours of their time to support policing.

Today marks the start of National Volunteers Week (Thursday 1 June – Wednesday 7 June) which gives us the opportunity to reflect on the outstanding voluntary contribution made by Special Constables, Police Support Volunteers and Volunteer Police Cadets during the last year, amounting to an incredible 20,013 hours of input.

The volunteers work in a range of roles, including assisting Safer Neighbourhood Teams to develop relationships with communities, updating members of the public on the progress of investigations, assisting with local events, dealing with telephone enquiries, and helping to run the Police Cadets Programme.

Citizens in Policing is a key link in connecting communities to policing and policing to communities. Our volunteers make a significant contribution to, and impact upon, all our communities across the counties covered by West Mercia.

Superintendent Ed Hancox said, “I am proud of the commitment that our dedicated volunteers give throughout the year, and they continue to provide a fantastic service across West Mercia Police.

“Many of our volunteers bring different skills and experiences into policing which is of huge benefit not just to our officers and staff, but to the wider community too.”
