West Mercia Police would like to thank the hard work of all our Special Constables.
There are currently 50 Special Constables working for West Mercia Police, and a further 28 in training who will be out on patrol in March this year.
They provide a vital role as volunteer police officers and give up their free time to help keep our local communities across Herefordshire, Shropshire and Worcestershire safe from harm.

In 2023, our Special Constables have:
Special Constables are voluntary, part-time police officers, who have the same powers as normal police officers but volunteer their time for a minimum of 16 hours a month.
They wear a police uniform and work alongside regular officers and staff to prevent crimes, engage with local communities, and protect people from harm.
Working in the most important areas of local policing, they also get involved in foot and vehicle patrols, roads policing, investigating crimes, arresting suspects, taking statements from witnesses and tackling local issues such anti-social behaviour and harassment.
Superintendent Edward Hancox, Head of Prevention for West Mercia Police, said: "We are very grateful to Special Constables across the force for their hard work and commitment through out 2023. In West Mercia, Special Constables are deployed in a wide range of roles including patrol, roads policing and safer neighbourhood teams. They are highly trained, dedicated individuals who give up their own time to keep their communities safe. Their achievements in 2023 are hugely impressive, and I wish to send my thanks to each of them. I know my colleagues are equally grateful for the support of the Special Constabulary"
