A violent offender has been sentenced to two years for causing unnecessary suffering to a child and assault offences.
Mark Biddle, 25, of Shrawley Avenue, Kidderminster, who is currently serving a prison sentence for other offences, was convicted at Worcester Crown Court last Wednesday (22 January).
Biddle (pictured) pled guilty to one count of intentional strangulation for which he was sentenced to 24 months, ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £187 and given a ten-year restraining order to protect his victim which runs until 22 January 2035.
He also pled guilty to one count of child cruelty in February 2023 for which he was sentenced to 14 months to run concurrently.
He further pled guilty to assault for which he was handed a three-month sentence to run concurrently and assault causing actual bodily harm which resulted in a four-month sentence to run concurrently.
Biddle was arrested in June 2023, following a report that a woman and her young child had been assaulted by him, causing them both injuries. The offences took place between January 2023 and June 2023.
Detective Inspector Marie Green, from the Worcester Protecting Vulnerable People (PVP) department, said: “Mark Biddle is a dangerous individual, who has a clear propensity for domestic violence.
“He subjected the victim and her young child to a terrifying campaign of domestic violence and abuse behind closed doors.
“The sentence clearly demonstrates the serious nature of the offences he has committed.
“I would like to commend the victim for having the courage and the strength to come forward, and for her patience as the matter filtered through the criminal justice system.
“I hope the sentence will provide the victim with some form of closure and that she can start to rebuild her life in due course.”
