Month-long surrender campaign launches ahead of ninja sword ban

The Home Office has launched a month-long surrender and compensation scheme that will run throughout July ahead of a ban on ninja swords.

Ninja swords will be banned in the UK from the 1 August where it will become illegal to possess, sell, make or import these swords.

Throughout July, West Mercia Police are asking anyone who owns a ninja sword to safely hand them into designated police stations.

All ninja swords can be surrendered, and owners will be eligible for financial compensation if proof can be presented that the sword was purchased before the 27 March 2025 and it is safety handed into a designated police station before 11:59pm on the 31 July.   

Once the surrender period ends, the possession, manufacture, importation, sale and supply of ninja swords will be prohibited.

Superintendent Brian Gibbs, head of prevention for West Mercia Police, said “We are in full support of this scheme which will mean removing these unnecessary and life-threatening weapons from our communities.

“We have sadly seen the destruction and devastation these weapons have brought to victims, their families and the officers who have to respond to incidents that involve them.

“This is a good opportunity for anyone who possesses such a weapon to bring them to one of the designated police stations and help get them out of our communities and off our streets”.

Ninja swords can be surrendered at the following designated police stations, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.

Telford Police Station – Malinsgate, Telford, TF3 4HW

Kidderminster Police Station – Habberley Road, Kidderminster, Dy11 6AN

Shrewsbury Police Station, Clive Road, Monkmoor, Shrewsbury, SY2 5RW

Hereford Police Station, Bath Street, Hereford, HR1 2HT

Worcester Police Station, Castle Street, Worcester, WR1 3QX
