Patrols stepped up after three burglaries in Evesham area

Police have stepped up patrols in the Evesham area after three residential burglaries including two last night (Tuesday 27 January).

Two addresses in Evesham were targeted between around 6.45pm and 8pm, and another one in Wickhamford recently - each time offenders gained entry through the rear door of the property.

They made off with valuables including jewellery, bags, and a quantity of cash from one house in Evesham after forcing the back door at around 6.45pm.

The glass in the rear door was smashed at a second house in the town around 7.24pm but the offenders are believed to have been disturbed and left with nothing.

A third property, in Wickhamford, was also targeted recently where the glass of the rear door had been smashed and power tools stolen.

Officers from Worcestershire CID and Evesham SNT are working to together to step up patrols and enquiries in the area and reassure the public following these burglaries.

Detectives are keeping an open mind as to whether these crimes are linked to previous burglaries that have occurred across the county recently.

Detective Inspector Lindsey Hewitt from Reactive CID said: “Working with our colleagues in SNT, we have stepped up patrols and are carrying out house to house enquiries following these burglaries.

“Burglaries are a priority for us, and we are urging anyone who may have captured anything on their CCTV, doorbell cameras or dashcam, or anyone can provide any information to get in touch.

“We know responsibility for these crimes always lie with the offenders, but this is a good opportunity to encourage people to review their home security.”

Here are some handy security measures to think of: -

• Use a timer for inside lights - some newer ‘smart’ timers even have a random schedule you can put them on.
• Take extra care to ensure rear and patio doors are secured and property kept in outbuildings, garages and sheds are locked away when not in use.
• Install a motion sensor CCTV, some of which can be linked directly to a mobile phone.
• Consider taking photos of your property and possessions, or mark valuables with SmartWater, for your own records and for insurance purposes.
• If you come across anyone attempting to steal your property or breaking into your home, please do not approach them. Call 999 immediately and report it to us.
