An arrest has been made in connection with dangerous driving and suspected organised car racing in Telford.
Officers arrested an 18-year-old man on suspicion of assisting or encouraging dangerous driving yesterday (Thursday 2 July). He has since been bailed pending further enquiries.
A number of devices have also been seized as part of the arrest.
The arrest was made as part of an ongoing investigation into illegal car meets in Telford which leads to anti-social behaviour and dangerous driving.
Safer Neighbourhood Inspector for Telford Rebecca Thomas said: “This arrest is part of our ongoing work to identify those involved in organised street racing, and to address numerous complaints received by the public in connection with car meets.“We recognise that not all car meets are illegal and not all people attending these events are intent on causing anti-social behaviour, however, the dangerous driving and encouraged street racing cannot be ignored, and we will continue to take action against individuals who are involved in this activity.“We’ve seen how quickly dangerous driving associated with illegal meets can lead to serious collisions and put lives at risk.”
Officers continue to work closely with Telford & Wrekin Council, and roads policing officers regularly attend car cruising meets across the force area as part of Operation Chicane to deter those who plan to race, and to crack down on any behaviour that could cause harm on the roads.
Residents and members of the public are encouraged to contact police with concerns around car cruising in Telford via the dedicated email address, [email protected].
