Two arrested following suspicious incident in Telford

Arrests have been made following reports that two men were acting suspiciously in Telford on Sunday (20 September).

Officers received reports at around 4.20pm that two men had approached girls in the Sutton Hill area.

Within five minutes of receiving the report officers were at the scene and carried out a search of the Sutton Hill and Madeley areas. No one was located at the time. 

Following further enquiries, officers have today (Tuesday 22 September) arrested two men, aged 35 and 44, on suspicion of causing alarm or distress under Section 4a of the Public Order Act 1986. Both men remain in police custody.

Sergeant Ash Doignie, from Madeley's Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: “We recognise the concern these reports may have caused within the local community, and I want to reassure residents that we take reports of this nature extremely seriously.

“Officers were on scene within minutes of the initial report and, as a result of further enquiries, two men have now been arrested and remain in police custody.

“We are continuing to investigate the circumstances and would urge anyone who saw anything suspicious in the Sutton Hill or Madeley areas on Sunday afternoon, or who has information they believe could be relevant, to come forward and speak to us. Even if something may seem insignificant, it could assist with our enquiries.”
