Gareth started his career with West Midlands Police in June 2000. Originally from the South East of England, he spent the early years of his service on response and policing teams in Birmingham, before taking on roles in Operations. In 2013 he took on Birmingham City Centre as its Inspector.
In 2016 Gareth took the lead for Management of Sexual and Violent Offenders (MOSOVO) and offender management across the force. He then became one of five 24/7 Force Incident Managers with elements of firearms command and major/critical incident leadership across the force.
Gareth spent two years working with Gloucestershire Constabulary as a Superintendent in Contact. In 2020 he returned to the West Midlands as the Central and West Birmingham Superintendent, before taking on the force lead for tackling Serious Youth Violence and Knife Crime.
Gareth joined West Mercia Police in 2023 as Chief Superintendent for Operations and Public Contact. In April his portfolio extended, to include Criminal Justice and Crime Management. In October 2025 Gareth commenced the role of Temporary Assistant Chief Constable for Crime and Vulnerability. Gareth is a qualified Strategic Commander in Firearms, Public Order and CBRN.
As our Assistant Chief Constable for the Crime and Vulnerability portfolio, Gareth oversees, investigation, strategic vulnerability, public contact, crime management, intelligence and forensic departments. These departments include major and serious organised crime investigations, online sexual exploitation and economic crime.
This portfolio also incorporates Criminal Justice, which covers our processes and case management, and relationships with the courts, the Crown Prosecution Service and Probation Services.
