Could you be an OCC Dispatch Controller?
The role of a Dispatch Controller is to manage and direct the flow of policing incidents coming into West Mercia Police by members of the public.
You will receive and record all emergency and non-emergency calls and use your judgement to determine the initial level of response and providing resolution at the first point of contact.
It’s fast paced and rewarding. You will go home after each shift knowing you have made a difference to the people on the other end of the line.
The main purpose of the role is to control policing incidents and resources in line with deployment principals, force policy, working practices and service standards. To receive and record Emergency and Non-Emergency calls for policing service, determining the initial level of response, and providing resolution at the first point of contact, where appropriate.
Working as a Controller is fast-paced, and your skills will be tested each day. You will gain a huge amount of satisfaction after each shift knowing you have helped people in their time of need.
You will be given support, training, and a tutor when you first start, to make sure you can answer calls with confidence.
There are also opportunities to advance your career within the OCC for those who wish to develop further.
We are looking for candidates who have the ability to work under pressure and make decisions effectively, are able to deal with difficult conversations and challenging situations, can gather information quickly and prioritise tasks, and can work independent and as part of a team.
We ask for 5 A – C grade GCSEs (including English Language and Maths), or equivalent.
Customer service experience is preferred, but is not essential for the role.
