Police have received growing concerns from residents regarding the use of e-scooters and off-road bikes within Wellington Town and College Ward. Reports suggest that riders are using these vehicles in a manner that causes nuisance, alarm and distress to members of the public, whilst also creating potential road safety risks for pedestrians and other road users
Issued 01 October 2026
Targeted patrols will be conducted at identified peak times to deter the inappropriate use of e-scooters and off-road bikes. Officers will engage with local residents and businesses to gather intelligence, identify offenders and establish patterns of offending. Where offences are identified, appropriate enforcement action will be taken, including seizure of E-Scooters & Off Road Bikes where legislation permits. Partnership working with local authority departments and community stakeholders will be utilised to address the issue, alongside educational engagement to raise awareness of the legal requirements surrounding the use of e-scooters and off-road bikes.
